Friction in Our Families
Philippians 2:1-8 | Wed, Nov 06, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

During challenging times, individuals within families have a tendency to turn inward and focus on themselves rather than focusing on those around them. However, strong families are committed to having the same mindset as Christ when they face trying times. Friction comes when each person approaches the other with a selfish attitude. The fact is that to avoid friction, each person must make the conscious decision to put others first and to serve them above themselves. It is about choosing to be sacrificial rather than selfish, and that choice brings peace.

The Power of the Holy Spirit
John 3:5-6 | Wed, Oct 30, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

The Holy Spirit gives us power! He gives us the power we need to advance His kingdom! Kingdom people are called to display the Fruit of the Spirit and move in the power of the Spirit. As believers the Holy Spirit wants to minister to every area of our lives. Both regeneration by the Spirit and baptism in the Spirit are works of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives in us to be a Kingdom example to others and comes upon us for Kingdom exploits and advancement.

The Power of Praise and Worship
Psalm 50:23 | Wed, Oct 23, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

The power of praise and worship is only effective when the essence of praise and worship is understood. Remember we should not confuse the expressions of praise and worship with the essence of praise and worship! So, lifting up hands, singing, dancing, shouting, etc. is not praise itself, any more than kneeling, crying, or being quiet is worship. The power is in understanding who God is and what He has done, is doing, and is going to do! Praise and worship may manifest in different ways, so go ahead and break out of your comfort zone and allow the power of praise and worship to take you higher and deeper!

The Power of the Blood
Hebrews 9:12-14 | Wed, Oct 16, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

The Bible says that Jesus shed His blood for the sins of all humanity. The idea of the blood of Christ as a means of atonement for sin has its origins in the Mosaic Law, which required that nearly everything be cleansed with blood. The power of the blood in the Bible refers to the power of Jesus Christ's blood to atone for mankind’s sin, cleanse people from their sin, and grant eternal life to all who put their trust in Him. Because the blood of Christ has redeemed us, we are now new creations in Christ, and by His blood we are freed from sin to serve the living God, to glorify Him, and to enjoy Him forever.

A Bitter Prophet
Jonah 4:1-11 | Wed, Oct 09, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

Jonah was mad that God would be so gracious to such awful people. If Jonah had his way, they would have gotten what they deserved. It’s easy to develop an “us versus them” mentality. As a culture, we are quick to draw lines in the sand and strictly define who is the in-crowd and who is not. God demonstrated time and time again that the only thing that puts you in the right crowd is a right relationship with Him—not the color of your skin, your socio-economic status, your family of origin, or your good deeds. We find ourselves in real spiritual danger when God’s grace makes us angry.

An Unexpected Response
Jonah 3:1-10 | Fri, Sep 27, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

As Jonah marched into Nineveh to proclaim the message given to him, it was clear he was doing it reluctantly. But even in our reluctant faith, God can accomplish His will. He can and will work through anything in order to reach those who are far from Him. The Ninevites repented when they heard Jonah’s message. The response that took place was shocking. It was the kind of response that most prophets would long for—a quick and speedy turning. It demonstrated that, whether we willingly or reluctantly share the good news of Jesus, it can result in salvation. It is not for us to pick and choose who should be offered forgiveness. It is our job to scatter the seed, and it is up to God to produce the crop. When it comes to sharing our faith, we must learn to expect the unexpected.

We Are All in the Same Boat
Jonah 1:16-2:10 | Thu, Sep 05, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

Jonah found himself in need of salvation as he was in the perils of the ocean. God, in His mercy, sent a huge fish to swallow Jonah and keep him safe within its belly for three days and three nights. It was inside of the fish that Jonah recognized God was his only means of rescue. Without God, Jonah was doomed. Though he understood that God had rescued him, it did not translate to a sense remorse for his failing to go to the Ninevites, only gratitude for his personal fortune. Eventually, the fish vomited Jonah onto dry land, which gave him a chance to respond correctly to God’s initial command. God is a God of second, third, and fourth chances—not just for Jonah and the Israelites but for everyone. The same opportunity for repentance and redirection is available to us all.

A Ticket to Tarshish
Jonah 1:1-16 | Wed, Aug 28, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

God chose Jonah to be His bearer of grace to a people that most believed did not deserve it. Jonah looked for every reason to go in the opposite direction. But before we are too hard on Jonah’s reluctance, we need to look at our own reluctance to share the love of God with people we see as dangerous or deserving of judgment. Are we too quick to find our own "ticket to Tarshish?" Where Jonah was unwilling, God was willing. Oftentimes, we confuse the God we want with the God who is. When God calls us to do His work, it often is not easy, but it is worth it.

What Does Jesus Say About Religion?
Matthew 11:28-30 | Fri, Aug 23, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

Jesus often found himself clashing with the religious leaders of his day. They were often so committed to their position concerning the law, that they failed to see their legalism. They forgot the heart behind God’s instruction and became religious oppressors. Jesus, however, did not come into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world. By fulfilling the law, he ushered in an era of grace, and invites us to join him in loving relationship.

What Does Jesus Say About Politics?
Luke 19:1-10 | Fri, Aug 16, 2024 | Pastor Terrell Taylor

Political entities are not the savior of the world. The salvation for all mankind has been manifested in Jesus Christ. God knew that our world needed saving long before any national government was ever founded. He demonstrated to the world that redemption could not be accomplished through the power of man, economic strength, military might, or politics. Only lasting peace, contentment, hope, and joy—and the salvation of mankind—are provided through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
